La Tech Wins D2 Conference Championship

Louisiana Tech Rugby is the DSRC D2 Conference Champions of 2017! The Bulldogs took on an eager Tulane University Rugby Football Club, and were able to control most of the match through commanding forward play, and the scoring ability of Nathan Martinez, who played outside center to La Tech. It was a competitive match through and through, and an exciting way to cap off a great season for both teams!

Congratulations to both!

DSRC Playoffs 2017

DSRC Playoffs

The Playoffs are finally here!

We have had to restructure our playoff system due to the forfeiture of Southern Mississippi and South Alabama from this year’s competition. Both teams were in the Eastern Division, and with their disqualification, left only Tulane and Spring Hill in the Division.

In order to retain some balance and fairness, we have changed the playoffs from East vs West, into Division 2 and National Small College Rugby Organization (NSCRO) competitions.  The DSRC has teams that compete in both the D2 and NSCRO national competitions, so to ensure that we are represented in both Tournaments, we have decided to crown both a NSCRO champ and a D2 champ.

Teams in the Division 2 bracket are Louisiana Tech, Louisiana Lafayette, and Tulane. The NSCRO bolsters Loyola, LSU-Alexandria, and Spring Hill.

Because LSUA and Tulane are the number one seed of their respective brackets, they have each been awarded a bye week for the ‘Wildcard’ playoff round to be played October 21, 2017.  The D2 bracket has ULL Traveling to face La Tech in what will be a great match with both teams searching for their first win, and NSCRO has Loyola and Spring Hill battling for their spot in the next round.

Following these rounds, the Conference Finals will be played in Baton Rouge on October 28,  where the winner of the D2 match will face off against Tulane, and the NSCRO winner will face LSU A.  It will be a massive day of rugby with Baton Rouge hosting an LSU women’s match and a Baton Rouge RFC Alumni match! There will be jambalaya, rugby, and plenty of fun for everyone attending. It is the PERFECT setting for a full day of conference play that will result in the crowning of the new conference champion!

Stay tuned for more information, and if you have any questions feel free to comment or direct message!

Week 2 Preview

Week 2 bolsters a heavy hitting match from the DSRC West. Louisiana Tech travels to Loyola of New Orleans to try and rectify the loss suffered at Loyola last season!

USA travels to Tulane University to get their season back on track after a disappointing week 1 forfeit.

What are your predictions for these great games?

Week 1 Results

Week 1 saw two matches end in two very different ways!

LSU Alexandria travelled to UL-Lafayette to prove why they are reigning conference champions. They came away with a scathingly convincing win of 92-0. The Generals’ campaign is off to a very strong start.

In the East we had Spring Hill College travel to South Alabama, where unfortunately, the South Alabama Jaguars were unable to have enough players registered under USA Rugby, and consequently had to forfeit their match.

The Conference Standings have been updated and will be updated after every match played!

New Teams, New Divisions, New Season

The 2017-2018 DSRC Matrix season is only a couple months away from opening weekend, and is already shaping up to be exciting and action packed.  Reasons for this include Spring Hill College’s re-entry into the conference. After a year as an independent club, the Badgers have rejoined the conference and will add their high level of play to the newly formed Eastern Division of the DSRC.

These newly formed divisions are also an exciting new change for the conference. An organizational tactic that has been discussed in the past, these divisions alleviate the stress of travel and its financial burden by separating the conference into an Eastern and a Western Division. The Western Division is made up of reigning Conference Champs, LSU – Alexandria, Louisiana Tech, UL- Lafayette, and Loyola. The Eastern Division features Tulane University, Southern Mississippi, South Alabama, and Spring Hill College.

You can view a map of the teams location within their Divisions by clicking here.

Teams will each play the teams within their Division, and will meet at the end of the regular season to compete in the DSRC Divisional Playoffs.  The winners of these playoffs will then represent their Division the following weekend in the Conference Championship Match!  This new way of organizing the competition is cleaner and more manageable for teams and will bolster great competition and growth of the game.  We will have more information regarding the playoff format and team seeding soon.

Be on the look out for the match schedule to be shared in the next couple weeks!
