Week 2 Preview

Week 2 bolsters a heavy hitting match from the DSRC West. Louisiana Tech travels to Loyola of New Orleans to try and rectify the loss suffered at Loyola last season!

USA travels to Tulane University to get their season back on track after a disappointing week 1 forfeit.

What are your predictions for these great games?

Week 1 Results

Week 1 saw two matches end in two very different ways!

LSU Alexandria travelled to UL-Lafayette to prove why they are reigning conference champions. They came away with a scathingly convincing win of 92-0. The Generals’ campaign is off to a very strong start.

In the East we had Spring Hill College travel to South Alabama, where unfortunately, the South Alabama Jaguars were unable to have enough players registered under USA Rugby, and consequently had to forfeit their match.

The Conference Standings have been updated and will be updated after every match played!

We will do our best to communicate all friendly/out of conference updates.

Now that the schedule is out, what are your predictions for the season? We are excited to see how the season unfolds, and who will survive the playoffs to reach the Conference Championship!

New Teams, New Divisions, New Season

The 2017-2018 DSRC Matrix season is only a couple months away from opening weekend, and is already shaping up to be exciting and action packed.  Reasons for this include Spring Hill College’s re-entry into the conference. After a year as an independent club, the Badgers have rejoined the conference and will add their high level of play to the newly formed Eastern Division of the DSRC.

These newly formed divisions are also an exciting new change for the conference. An organizational tactic that has been discussed in the past, these divisions alleviate the stress of travel and its financial burden by separating the conference into an Eastern and a Western Division. The Western Division is made up of reigning Conference Champs, LSU – Alexandria, Louisiana Tech, UL- Lafayette, and Loyola. The Eastern Division features Tulane University, Southern Mississippi, South Alabama, and Spring Hill College.

You can view a map of the teams location within their Divisions by clicking here.

Teams will each play the teams within their Division, and will meet at the end of the regular season to compete in the DSRC Divisional Playoffs.  The winners of these playoffs will then represent their Division the following weekend in the Conference Championship Match!  This new way of organizing the competition is cleaner and more manageable for teams and will bolster great competition and growth of the game.  We will have more information regarding the playoff format and team seeding soon.

Be on the look out for the match schedule to be shared in the next couple weeks!

2014 Deep South AGM

Deep South Rugby Conference has announced the annual general meeting will be held on November 8th in downtown Mobile, AL. It will be held in conjunction with the annual Battleship Tournament and the time and location will be announced soon.

Deep South to petition USA Rugby for D2 status

┬á Coaches and administrators from all over the DSRC are petitioning USA Rugby this week for approved status to compete in the D2 national championship. Since the college restructure began┬áthe decision makers at USA Rugby deemed the Deep South should be considered D1 or D1-AA, but that’s all about to change. Pending approval from the College Management Council the DSRC will be reinstated and the DSRC Commissioner’s office will┬áimmediately release a 2013 fall matrix schedule. Giving way to a second championship season in 2013.

┬á D2 conference commissioners from across the nation┬árecently voted┬áto change their matrix seasons to┬áa ‘fall sememster only’ season. The new competition will see most teams begining their season on September 14, winners reaching the sweet 16 by November 23rd & 24th, and the final weekend, nestled somewhere in the warmer South (probably at Furman U), on December 7th and 8th, 2013. Check back here for more information as the┬ápetition unfolds and hopefully a conference schedule will┬ábe posted quickly after the CMC’s decision.
